Key world-class projects include development of Kodiramamurthy Stadium at Srikakulam, construction of a modern Rs 25-crore stadium at Kommadi in Visakhapatnam, a new sports school at Vizianagaram, and a residential sports school for talented tribal children in the Araku-Paderu region

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh government has completed the tendering process for various world-class sports infrastructure projects worth ₹54 crore in the state. This marks implementation of the state’s comprehensive sports policy of building world-class sports facilities across AP, apart from ensuring the welfare of athletes.

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) chairman Animini Ravi Naidu made this disclosure while addressing a review meeting at the SAAP headquarters on Sunday.

Key world-class projects include development of Kodiramamurthy Stadium at Srikakulam, construction of a modern Rs 25-crore stadium at Kommadi in Visakhapatnam, a new sports school at Vizianagaram, and a residential sports school for talented tribal children in the Araku-Paderu region.

Ravi Naidu said under the Khelo India scheme, a synthetic track has been completed at Kakinada. A sports academy will come up at this place. A multi-purpose indoor stadium is already operational at Rajamahendravaram, while renovation works worth Rs 8-Rs 10 crore are planned at the Eluru stadium. Major stadia at Vijayawada and Guntur are being upgraded. The state government has allotted 28.30 acres at Tirupati to develop advanced sports facilities and academies.

The SAAP chairman underlined that AP has aligned its policy with that of Sports Authority of India, focusing on Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth games. It has studied sports policies and best practices of nearly 17 states, including Tamil Nadu, before finalising its own comprehensive policy.

Ravi Naidu maintained that earlier, Andhra Pradesh lacked a clear sports policy and adequate infrastructure. On the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, a comprehensive policy has been formulated incorporating inputs from various sports associations across India, players’ bodies and media representatives.

He requested these organisations to provide their feedback, so that further refinements could be in the projects being implemented.

The SAAP chairman pointed out that 3 per cent horizontal reservation is being extended to eligible sportspersons in government jobs. He warned of strict action against forged certificates being presented for jobs. In this regard, he directed all associations and athletes to upload their mandatory documents on the AP Sports app by January 15, 2026.

Ravi Naidu promised clearance of `16 crore in pending dues and release of another `8 crore in February.

He thanked media for its support to sports development in AP during 2025 and sought similar cooperation in 2026.
