Temporary Sand Path Washed Away In Konaseema

Kakinada:With the inflows rising in River Godavari, a “temporary sand path’’ was washed away near Burugulanka in P Gannavaram Mandal in Konaseema district on Thursday.
As a result, the people of four islet villages namely Burugulanka, Udumudi Lanka, Arigela Varipeta and G Pedapudi faced difficulties but managed to move out with the help of boats.
The Konaseema district collector Mahesh alerted the people. RDO Srikar and DRDA project director Sainath visited the islet villagers and gave them support and reassurance. They said life-jackets were made available for schoolchildren. Officials provided drinking water and medical assistance to the affected people.

Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram to the Bay of Bengal by lifting 175 gates with a height of 0.40 metres after the water level reached 10.30 feet. Some 4,800 cusecs were released to the eastern canal, 2,450 cusecs to the central delta and 6,500 cusecs to the western delta region discharged.
The Polavaram project was also receiving heavy inflows. The Gandipochamma Temple compound was inundated due to the floodwaters, following which it was closed.
Eluru district collector Vetri Selvi said the officials alerted the inhabitants of a flood threat from Godavari. She sent four special officers to Kukkunuru and Velerupadu mandals to assess the flood situation and take up necessary steps. She instructed the officials to identify the weakening canal bunds, canals and sluices and take up necessary steps.
