VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has asserted that lapses and sacrilegious incidents in temples can be averted if temple governing boards discharge their duties responsibly and rise above political considerations.
Virtually inaugurating the newly constructed giri pradakshina road at Srikalahasti Temple from the state secretariat at Velagapudi in Amaravati on Friday, he said that several irregularities had taken place at Tirumala Temple during the previous regime.
“Had the then-governing board acted responsibly, such incidents would not have occurred. The mistakes of the past must not be repeated,” he emphasised.
The Deputy Chief Minister called upon temple boards constituted under the present coalition government to ensure that earlier lapses are not repeated and that temples are protected beyond the realm of politics.
Expressing his long-standing desire to undertake giri pradakshina, he said he would soon visit Srikalahasti at the invitation of the endowments minister, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, and devotees to offer prayers. He described the inauguration ahead of Shivaratri as “a moment of spiritual significance.”
The 22-km giri pradakshina road at Srikalahasti has been laid at an estimated cost of ` 10 crore under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan added.
