Kakinada: A woman from Miryalaguda in Telangana, along with her relatives and a few advocates, staged a dharna in front of the Nuzvid Rural Police Station on Sunday, demanding the arrest of a man from Pothireddypally village in Nuzvid rural mandal. She alleged that the man was in a live-in relationship with her and was now attempting to marry another woman.
According to sources, the protesters initially gathered at the Nuzvid Town Circle Police Station, urging officials to stop the proposed marriage and ensure justice. The circle inspector Satya Srinivas, informed them that the matter did not fall under his jurisdiction and advised them to lodge a complaint at the Rural Police Station.
During the protest, one advocate allegedly confronted the CI and was briefly taken into custody and counselled. After discussions with the CI, the group moved to the Nuzvid Rural Police Station, where they continued their protest late into the night, reiterating their demand to stop the marriage.
Sources said the woman had earlier married another man, with a petition related to that marriage pending in court. She later entered into a live-in relationship with the Nuzvid rural mandal resident in 2019. He allegedly abandoned her and returned to his village and is now planning to marry another woman, prompting the protest.
