ISRO chairman offers prayers at Tirumala for the mission’s success: Reports
NELLORE: After a gap of more than seven months, Isro would launch an Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-05) aboard the GSLV-F17 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), Sriharikota, at 2.55 am on Friday, September 4.
The last Isro launch was PSLV-C62/EOS-N1, carrying EOS-N1 and 15 co-passenger satellites on January 12 this year. However, the mission encountered an anomaly during the PS3 stage.
Though the Vikram-I mission was successfully launched from SHAR on July 18, it was not an Isro launch. It was conducted by Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace, becoming the first orbital launch from Indian soil by a private Indian company. Isro provided the launch infrastructure at SDSC-SHAR.
With regard to EOS-05, this is the country’s first-ever imaging satellite designed to operate from a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (Sub-GTO).
EOS-05 is a state-of-the-art earth observation spacecraft designed to capture detailed images of the Earth and provide data for monitoring and other applications that require regular observation of land and the environment. This is a replacement for GISAT-1A, which was lost in a launch failure in 2021.
The GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission has assumed added significance against the backdrop of the setbacks in two successive PSLV missions in 2025 and early 2026. The developments had prompted Isro to briefly pause launches for a detailed review of the launch vehicle’s performance.
With the space agency now focused on restoring momentum and strengthening confidence in its launch programme, the upcoming mission is being watched closely.
Meanwhile, Isro chairman Dr V Narayanan offered prayers on Wednesday at the abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala for the success of the mission, after placing a model of the GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission at the feet of the deity.
Narayanan sought the blessings of Lord Venkateswara for the successful launch of the GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, which is scheduled for 2.55am on September 4.
Describing the mission as crucial for Isro, Narayanan said EOS-05, equipped with advanced Earth-observation capabilities, would be placed in Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (Sub-GTO). The satellite, he said, is expected to enhance the observation and study of various aspects of the Earth.
The successful deployment of EOS-05 would mark another significant milestone for Isro’s Space programme, he said.
