TD, YSRC Rivals Clash In Pulivendula During ZPTC By-Poll Campaign

YSRC leaders including MLC Ramesh Yadav and Velpula leader Ramu, apart from several TD activists have suffered injuries when both the ruling and opposition campaigners fought with each other.

ANANTAPUR: Tension prevailed in Nalgondavaripalli village in Pulivendula Rural mandal of Kadapa district on Wednesday following a violent clash during the Pulivendula ZPTC by-election campaign.

YSRC leaders including MLC Ramesh Yadav and Velpula leader Ramu, apart from several TD activists have suffered injuries when both the ruling and opposition campaigners fought with each other.

Both YSRC and TD are treating the Pulivendula ZPTC seat as prized, even though its tenure is just 12 months. The results are expected to impact the future local body polls across Kadapa district. The Pulivendula ZPTC by-poll has been necessitated after sitting ZPTC member Maheswara Reddy of YSRC died in a road mishap.

Pulivendula TD in-charge B. Tech Ravi’s wife Latha Reddy is in the fray for the seat. According to information, YSRC leaders including MLC Ramesh Yadav arrived in the Nalgondavaripalli village to campaign in support of his party candidate. Local TD leaders resisted his visit to the village. When Ramesh Yadav continued campaigning, a group of TDP activists pelted stones on his car and attacked its occupants, including the MLC.

Ramesh Yadav suffered a fracture, while several TD cadres also suffered injuries.

Both the groups have lodged complaints against each other. Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy of YSRC charged that TD leaders are forcing YSRC leaders into joining the TD, so that the ruling party can win the ZPTC seat, even though it has no hold in the area.

However, TD leader B. Tech Ravi maintains that YSRC supporters are voluntarily joining the Telugu Desam Party seeing the ongoing development activities in the area.
