TD yet to finalise candidate for MLC election
Visakhapatnam: There is uncertainty over whether the ruling Telugu Desam Party will contest the by-election for the MLC seat of the combined Visakhapatnam district. If it chooses to contest, who will its candidate? TD, JS, and BJP leaders have stated that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu may decide in a day or two.
A meeting of public representatives and leaders of the combined Visakhapatnam district was held in the presence of Chandrababu on Friday. After gathering inputs from leaders, the CM discussed the parties' strengths in the district.
Some leaders said they have secured victory in the GVMC Standing Committee elections and anticipate winning the MLC post with the same momentum. Vizag TD leaders informed CM that there are indications that any candidate will win, as many YSRC corporators are willing to support TD.
The issue of YSRC taking ZPTC and MPTC members to Bangalore was brought to the attention of the CM. However, some leaders felt it would be better if the TD refrained from the contest due to its lower vote share than the YSRC. As a result, TD, JS, and BJP leaders were told to gather again to decide on the contest and candidate.
