TD Wins Vinjamuru MPP Election Amid Kidnap Allegations

The election result stands even as political tensions remain high in Vinjamuru mandal

Nellore: The Mandal Parishad President (MPP) election in Vinjamuru mandal concluded amid high drama on Monday, with allegations of the kidnapping of an MPTC member dominating proceedings. Despite the tense atmosphere, Vanipenta Haimavathi of the TD was elected MPP with majority support.

The election was held at the Mandal Parishad office under the supervision of Election Officer Nirmala Devi, with tight police security in place. Of the 12 MPTC members, only six attended the meeting.

Tension flared ahead of voting after the YSRC alleged that one of its MPTC members had been kidnapped, leading to heated arguments and a brief standoff near the office. Officials intervened and brought the situation under control, allowing the election to proceed.

While the TDP celebrated the result, the YSRCP objected to the conduct of the election. Udayagiri YSR Congress in-charge Mekapati Rajagopal Reddy alleged that coalition leaders resorted to “kidnap politics” out of fear of defeat, claiming the incident amounted to a “murder of democracy.” He also alleged that a woman MPTC member was injured and said the party had secured a moral victory despite the outcome.

Authorities have not officially confirmed the kidnapping allegation. The election result stands even as political tensions remain high in Vinjamuru mandal.
