Tirupati: Telugu Desam’s Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy claimed on Friday that the YSR Congress would be wiped out of Andhra Pradesh politics.
Speaking at the party’s Mini Mahanadu held at the VPR Convention Centre in Nellore, Somireddy accused the previous government of widespread corruption and mis-governance. He highlighted several irregularities during its term, and cited a Rs 3,200 crore liquor scam. The total value of unaccounted and illegal liquor sales could be closer to Rs 10,000 crore, he felt.
The MLA also responded to allegations over land allotments to a company in Visakhapatnam, asserting that the land was sold at market rates ranging between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore per acre. He rejected the YSRC’s claim that it was sold for 90 paise per acre. He challenged YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy to resign if he’s proven wrong. “I am ready to resign my post if this allegation is disproved,” he said.
Reflecting on his long-standing association with the TD, Somireddy recalled working with NT Rama Rao, Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh. He highlighted the party’s legacy in launching an anti-liquor movement, especially in Nellore district, and credited Naidu with fostering the IT and industrial sectors in Andhra Pradesh.
Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy described the TD as a unified family dedicated to public welfare and urged its workers to prepare for the upcoming local body elections, and urged the party cadre to address grievances within the party’s internal mechanisms and avoid infighting.
Minister P Narayana recalled the difficulties endured by TD cadres during the YSRC’s rule and assured the party workers that they would now receive due recognition. “We have shown the YSRC the door. Now, let us ensure their complete exit and reinforce the strength of the Telugu Desam that stands for both welfare and development,” he said.
Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy criticised former chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of making false statements in press conferences and attempting to mislead the public.
