TD Chief Scales Down Security

The MLA said he would use his personal vehicle for constituency visits to minimise inconvenience to the public and reduce avoidable government spending

Visakhapatnam: Telugu Desam state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday scaled down his security arrangements and returned the bullet-proof vehicle allotted to him under Y-category security cover, citing the Centre’s call for austerity and fuel conservation.

Addressing the media in Visakhapatnam, Srinivasa Rao said he had reduced the number of security personnel from four to two and curtailed the use of escort arrangements and green-channel movement.

He said the decision was influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for responsible fuel usage amid prevailing geopolitical uncertainties, particularly the evolving situation in West Asia. He also referred to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s emphasis on prudent governance and accountability under the “Na Desam-Na Badhyata” (My Nation-My Responsibility) initiative.

Srinivasa Rao said public representatives should lead by example during challenging times and avoid unnecessary expenditure.

The MLA said he would use his personal vehicle for constituency visits to minimise inconvenience to the public and reduce avoidable government spending.

He also announced that the Telugu Desam’s annual Mahanadu event this year would be conducted largely through digital and online platforms, with emphasis on technology-enabled participation and cost-effective management practices instead of large-scale physical arrangements.
