Vijayawada: Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh is making serious efforts to create 500,000 jobs in the IT and electronics sectors.
The state government has allocated 21.16 acres of land to the IT giant, TCS, at a nominal price of just 99 paise. This is seen as a strategic initiative by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu to fulfill his election promise to generate two million jobs in five years.
Last October, Lokesh visited the TCS headquarters in Mumbai, urging Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran to establish a development centre in the state. Discussions with TCS representatives were a success. The company plans to invest `1370 crore in establishing the TCS Development Centre in Visakhapatnam.
This is likely to create 12,000 jobs. Government sources said TCS's involvement is poised to turn Visakhapatnam into a key IT hub.
“Lokesh is in touch with prominent companies that are preparing to set up data centres in the region. His initiatives as chairman of the state employment generation sub-committee are beginning to bear fruit. Over the past ten months, various industrial firms have come forward with investments totalling `8 trillion,” promising more than 500,000 jobs, the sources claimed.
It is noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had allocated land for Tata Motors at Sanand in Gujarat at a rate of 99 paise during his tenure as CM, marking a significant milestone for the auto industry in Gujarat. The Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to allocate land for 99 paise to TCS aims to revitalise the IT sector in the state, the sources said.
The state government is taking steps to rejuvenate the IT sector in the state. The new IT and electronics policies have been announced with investor-friendly guidelines in mind.
