TIRUPATI: A private taxi caught fire near Divvaram, close to the Garudadhri Nagar Cottage (GNC) toll gate on the second ghat road to Tirumala on Thursday.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by battery overheating while the vehicle was en route to Tirumala. Alert motorists noticed the flames, informed the driver and helped stop the vehicle.
Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. The Tata Sumo was completely gutted.
The vehicle belonged to M. Lava Kumar of L.B. Nagar in Tirupati. No injuries were reported.
