Tall Young Basketball Player Poojitha Draws Attention at Amaravati Championship

The four-day state-level Amaravati Championship-2026 began in Tirupati on Monday, with the event entering the Asian Book of Records for the large-scale participation recorded during its earlier rounds.

Tirupati: Young basketball player Poojitha, who stands six-and-a-half feet tall, has grabbed attention at the Amaravati Championship 2026 being held in Tirupati.

Poojitha, the daughter of Srinivas and Bhumika from Konaseema district, came to Tirupati to participate in the Under-17 basketball competition. She is currently studying Intermediate first year.

Poojitha has been practising basketball for the past three years. She has represented the state at the state-level competitions six times and participated in national-level competitions five times.

Expressing confidence in her performance, Poojitha said she was hopeful of winning the Amaravati.

The four-day state-level Amaravati Championship-2026 began in Tirupati on Monday, with the event entering the Asian Book of Records for the large-scale participation recorded during its earlier rounds. The championship was conducted across all 175 Assembly constituencies from July 15 to 30, attracting 2,07,498 players, including 1,42,306 boys and 65,192 girls. District-level competitions were held from August 6 to 15, with around 83,650 players participating. Top performers qualified for the state-level event in Tirupati.
