Swimming Attempt Turns Fatal, Two Die in Srikalahasti
12-year-old slips into well; youth dies trying to save him
Tirupati: A swimming attempt ended in tragedy at Arava Kothuru village in Srikalahasti mandal of Tirupati district, where a 12-year-old boy and a youth drowned in a well on Friday.
According to sources, Trishul, a Class V student, had gone to a local well along with his friends to learn swimming. While a few boys who knew swimming entered the well, Trishul jumped in despite not knowing how to swim and began to drown.
His friends tried to rescue him but failed. Noticing the incident, Tarun Reddy (25) rushed to the spot and entered the well in an attempt to save the boy. However, both of them drowned.
On receiving information, police reached the spot and took up a rescue operation. With the help of expert swimmers, the bodies were retrieved. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
