Survivors Call For Stronger Action Against Human Trafficking
The event, coordinated by ATSEC, Andhra Pradesh chapter, in collaboration with VIMUKTHI, HELP, RHEDS, and GUIDE, amplified the voices of survivors due to the anti-trafficking efforts of the state and civil organisations.

Vijayawada:Survivors of human trafficking and advocacy organisations met at the Press Club in Vijayawada to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2025.
The event, coordinated by ATSEC, Andhra Pradesh chapter, in collaboration with VIMUKTHI, HELP, RHEDS, and GUIDE, amplified the voices of survivors due to the anti-trafficking efforts of the state and civil organisations.
VIMUKTHI president Apoorva lauded the government’s initiatives in helping out the survivors, while pointing to the major shortcomings. "To achieve recognition as a trafficking-free state, we need strong Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) in every district that prioritise survivor-centred approach," she underlined.
Statistics of the National Crime Records Bureau (2016–2022) highlight systemic issues in Andhra Pradesh. While 1,396 cases had been registered under IPC and 594 under ITPA in Andhra Pradesh, only 109 resulted in convictions against 887 acquittals, indicating the conviction rate of just 8 per cent.
This year's global theme for the day is “Human trafficking is not just a crime—it is a moral emergency.”
On the day, anti-human trafficking organisations highlighted the evolution of trafficking into intricate criminal networks that leverage digital platforms and social media for recruitment.
VIMUKTHI brought to light another concern that only 13 out of the 26 districts in Andhra Pradesh have AHTUs. Even these units are not fully equipped to manage trafficking cases independently.
