Suman Seeks Govt Support For Small-Budget and Short Films

Suman said enhanced subsidies would encourage young filmmakers across the state

VIJAYAWADA: Actor Suman Talwar on Sunday called for greater government support for small-budget and short films in Andhra Pradesh, urging Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to help nurture grassroots cinema.

He was speaking as chief guest at the Andhra Pradesh Short Film Festival and Awards held at Ramakrishna Kavi Kala Kshetram in Tenali.

Festival organiser and MA-AP founder Dileep Raja said 203 entries were received, of which 65 films were shortlisted. The Krishna Memorial First Prize of `50,000 went to Mahavriksham from Visakhapatnam. The Savitri Memorial Second Prize of `30,000 was awarded to Simhadri Appanna from Srikakulam, while Abaddham vs Nijam won the third prize of `20,000.

The event was presided over by Mumbai-based producer and OTT platform promoter S. N. Rao. Suman said enhanced subsidies would encourage young filmmakers across the state and praised Dileep Raja for organising a festival exclusively for Andhra Pradesh-based talent.

Rao said selected stories would be considered for his OTT platform. AP Film Development Corporation (APFDC) general manager Srinivasa Nayak said a proposal to increase subsidies was under active consideration.

Special awards for acting, direction and technical excellence were also presented.
