Sugali Preeti Case Politicised, Justice Still Pending: Parents

They alleged that after the coalition government came to power, the CBI probe slowed down and the family pension was stopped after they spoke against the government.

Vijayawada: Nine years after the rape and murder of Sugali Preeti, her parents on Tuesday alleged that political leaders had used the case for political mileage while justice continued to elude the family.

Preeti’s parents, Parvathi and Raju Naik, met YSRC president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at the party’s central office in Tadepalli and sought support for justice in the 2017 case.

The family said the case was handed over to the CBI during the YSRC government and that they received assistance including a house site in Kurnool, five acres of agricultural land and a government job for Preeti’s father.

They alleged that after the coalition government came to power, the CBI probe slowed down and the family pension was stopped after they spoke against the government.

After hearing their grievances, Jagan Mohan Reddy assured them of legal and political support.

Speaking to the media later, Parvathi accused Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan of politicising the issue. She alleged that he repeatedly raised the case between 2020 and 2024 promising justice, but the family was later denied appointments and informed that evidence in the case had been tampered with.
