Strong Court Follow-Up Helps Satya Sai District Improve Convictions

ANANTAPUR: Satya Sai district police secured convictions in 345 cases in 2025, with courts awarding punishments, including fines and minor sentences, for various offences during the year. Briefing the media on the annual crime report at Puttaparthi on Tuesday, district Superintendent of Police Sathish Kumar said the results were achieved through effective court monitoring and systematic follow-up of trial proceedings.

The SP said police teams also successfully handled bandobast arrangements for the week-long centenary birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Satya Sai Baba, which were attended by the President, Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Union ministers and several other VVIPs.

Emphasising future priorities, the SP said stringent action would be taken against habitual offenders and those attempting to disturb public peace. Intensive patrolling, surprise checks and strengthened intelligence gathering would be prioritised to deter criminal activity.

He said coordination among police units would be enhanced, with greater focus on crime mapping, hotspot-based policing and the use of advanced surveillance systems. Community policing initiatives would also be expanded to build public trust and encourage citizen cooperation.

The SP said the district police were fully committed to ensuring a crime-free environment in 2026 through proactive strategies, timely intervention and strict enforcement of the law.

The future action plan for crime prevention will focus on strengthening patrolling through the deployment of day- and night-vision drones to closely track criminal movement and enhance surveillance across vulnerable areas. This technology-driven approach is expected to improve response time and deter organised and repeat offences.

Police will also intensify public awareness programmes on the Public Safety Act, while encouraging residents and institutions to install CCTV cameras to aid monitoring and investigation. These measures aim to promote shared responsibility in maintaining law and order.

As part of community outreach, the ‘Varadhi’ programme will be expanded, under which police officers will visit villages and use projectors to screen informative films and video clips to spread legal awareness among the public, particularly in rural areas.

To strengthen women’s safety, Shakti Teams will be deployed in schools, colleges and areas with a high concentration of women. These teams will promote the use of the Shakti App and conduct awareness programmes focused on prevention, reporting mechanisms and support systems for women.

In view of upcoming Panchayat elections, assigning specific officers to each village, maintaining surveillance on anti-social elements, enforcing bind-over cases, district externment and invoking the PD Act where necessary to ensure peaceful polls.

Scope for improvement

The SP said there was scope to further strengthen the use of advanced technology and drones, improve day and night patrolling with adequate staffing, maintain constant surveillance of rowdy-sheeters and sexual offenders, closely monitor property offenders, rectify road accident black spots, enhance road safety awareness and intensify public awareness on cyber crimes to further reduce crime.

· Lok-Adalath disposal cases: 2837 IPC cases and Petty cases-2949.

· Rowdy sheets open: 183, Suspect Sheets open: 38, Total: 221.

In the Hindupur Bank theft case, an interstate 2 gang members from Haryana were arrested and 5.5 kgs of stolen gold ornaments worth around ₹5.50 crores were recovered swiftly.

Notorious fraudster Morimishetty Suresh @ Dal Mill Suri, who cheated farmers and businessmen of about ₹300 crores, was arrested and detained under the P.D. Act, and shifted to Kadapa Central Jail. P.D. Act was also imposed on Morimishetty Pandu.

Similarly, individuals involved in organized crimes through social media — Pasupuleti Ramesh (Amadagur) and Anjad Khan (Kadiri Town) — were detained under the P.D. Act.
