Visakhapatnam: A pack of stray dogs attacked a five-year-old boy, Moksha Raju, who was playing in a park near his house in Kurmannapalem near Visakhapatnam Steel Plant area on Friday. The boy suffered multiple injuries and a part of his left ear was also ripped off.

Locals said Moksharaju came to the park alone on Friday afternoon, and was reportedly playing in the park when more than 10 stray dogs suddenly surrounded and attacked him. The boy suffered severe injuries before nearby people rushed to his rescue.

“I was informed by night team of sanitary workers and visited the boy at the hospital in the morning. We ensured he was given anti-rabies medicine and immunoglobulin,” said city veterinary officer Dr S. Kiran.

He said dog catchers picked up 18 dogs from that area for administering anti-rabies vaccine and animal birth control programme.
