Thousands of members of the minority community and TD activists participated in the programme, holding placards expressing gratitude for the initiative

Nellore: The foundation stone for the Abdul Kalam International School was laid on Saturday on five acres of Waqf Board land in Nellore, marking a major initiative aimed at providing quality education to underprivileged children.

The bhoomi puja was performed by municipal administration minister P. Narayana in the presence of Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, State Waqf Board chairman Abdul Aziz, NUDA chairman Srinivasulu Reddy, In-charge Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav, Deputy Mayor Tahseen, Minority Finance Corporation chairman Mufti, Haj Committee chairman Hussain, senior TD leaders and Narayana educational institutions director Ponguru Sharani.

Thousands of members of the minority community and TD activists participated in the programme, holding placards expressing gratitude for the initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Abdul Aziz described the project as historic, stating that it is the first international school to be built on Waqf land in the state. He said the school would be constructed at a cost of ₹20 crore and developed with international standards.

Narayana said the initiative stemmed from his interactions with poor families during the election campaign. “Education transformed my life, and I understand poverty first-hand,” he said, announcing that admissions would begin by June 12. He added that the project is being supported by MP C.M. Ramesh.

Narayana also said VR High School has already been upgraded to international standards and that 14 more government schools in Nellore city would be modernised with donor support.

MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy termed the project visionary, while MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy described it as a lasting gift to the people of Nellore.
