Stone-Pelting Disrupts Muharram Procession

Anantapur: Tension prevailed at PC Pyapili village in Vajrakarur mandal of Anantapur district after two groups clashed during Muharram celebrations on Saturday. Police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the groups after stone-pelting broke out. Several police personnel were also injured in the incident.
According to police, the dispute began during the Peerla (Muharram) procession when one group insisted on performing the traditional Alaayi Tokkadam ritual in front of the procession, while another objected and prevented them from proceeding.

As the situation turned tense, police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control. Additional police forces were rushed to the village, while senior officials monitored the situation. Police said the situation was later brought under control.
Meanwhile, thousands of Hindu and Muslim devotees participated in Muharram celebrations at the historic Gugudu Kullaya Swamy Temple in Narpala mandal. The Endowments Department made elaborate arrangements for the event, while APSRTC operated special bus services from various parts of the district to facilitate devotees.
