Stay Alert Despite Lull in Extremism: Anitha to Forces

Anitha praised the Greyhounds force for its discipline, professionalism and operational efficiency.

Visakhapatnam: Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Monday reviewed the operational preparedness of the elite Greyhounds unit in Visakhapatnam and called for continued vigilance against Left Wing Extremism despite the present decline in extremist activity.

The visit followed a recent review meeting convened by the Union home minister with LWE-affected states to strengthen coordinated anti-Maoist operations across the country.

Interacting with security personnel, Anitha directed them to remain alert and maintain maximum operational readiness, noting that Maoist groups had previously carried out surprise attacks in Andhra Pradesh. She said the current lull in extremist activity should not lead to complacency and stressed the importance of intelligence-based operations and continuous preparedness.

The minister praised the Greyhounds force for its discipline, professionalism and operational efficiency. She also reviewed upgraded facilities at the Greyhounds Training Centre, including modern firing ranges, synthetic endurance tracks, indoor and outdoor conditioning units, and specialised water surveillance and combat training systems.

Anitha felicitated personnel who recently won honours in the All India Commando Competition and congratulated them for bringing recognition to Andhra Pradesh. She said their achievement reflected the force’s high standards of training, endurance and commitment, further enhancing the reputation of the Greyhounds at the national level.
