State Sanitation Award Increases Responsibility: Nellore Commissioner
Nellore Municipal Corporation's state sanitation award has strengthened its resolve to further improve cleanliness, scientific waste management and public participation, Commissioner Y.O. Nandan said.
Nellore municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan on Tuesday said the civic body’s recognition as the “Best Performing Urban Local Body (ULB)” under the state government’s “Operation Clean Sweep – 30 Days Programme” has increased its responsibility to further improve sanitation standards.
Speaking at a felicitation programme for sanitation officials and workers at the command and control centre, Nandan said the award, presented by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at a state-level function in Gudivada, recognised the collective efforts of sanitation workers, officials, public representatives and citizens.
Nellore Municipal Corporation received the award in the category of Urban Local Bodies with a population of more than three lakh for its performance in sanitation, scientific solid waste management, public participation and cleanliness awareness.
The commissioner appealed to residents to continue supporting the mission of building a clean and green Nellore under the slogan, “Our City – Our Responsibility – Our Pride.”
He also directed officials to prevent the spillage of sand and construction material on roads during transportation and warned that strict action would be taken against those dumping waste on roadsides.
Nandan acknowledged the support extended by municipal administration minister Dr P. Narayana, Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, Mayor Devarakonda Sujatha Ashok, Deputy Mayors and corporators in helping the civic body secure the award.
