State Allocates Rs 2,000 Crore For Rural Roads: Nimmala Rama Naidu

The Jal Jeevan Mission, which had expired in 2024, has been extended till 2028, with the State securing an additional ₹2,250 crore from the Central government: Nimmala Rama Naidu

KAKINADA: Water resources minister Nimmala Rama Naidu on Saturday said the alliance government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for the development of rural roads through the panchayat raj department.

He also said the Jal Jeevan Mission, which had expired in 2024, has been extended till 2028, with the State securing an additional ₹2,250 crore from the Central government. The minister was speaking after laying foundation stones for various development works at Vadlavanipalem village in Palakollu constituency.

Criticising the previous YSRC government, Naidu alleged that funds from both the State and Centre were diverted, leaving panchayats starved of resources. He said sarpanches were forced to struggle even to pay staff salaries, while basic necessities such as bleaching powder for drinking water and sand replacement in filter beds were neglected.

The minister said the present alliance government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has begun directly crediting Finance Commission funds to panchayats to strengthen local bodies. Development works are being taken up under the Palle Panduga programme, he added.

Naidu said systemic reforms are being introduced in the panchayat raj system to promote village self-governance and restore investor confidence, which he claimed had eroded during the previous regime.
