Kurnool:Srisailam, the revered temple town, has been experiencing a widespread power outage since around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, following a severe thunderstorm. The storm, marked by heavy rainfall, gale-force winds, and intense lightning, disrupted the local power infrastructure, plunging the area into darkness.
Residents of Srisailam, Sunnipenta, and neighbouring villages have been left without electricity due to a major technical failure at the Sunnipenta sub-station, reportedly caused by a direct lightning strike.
Although Transco officials have been working to restore power, supply had not resumed in most areas by 10 p.m. Only the Srisailam temple premises continue to receive electricity through backup generators, while the rest of the region remains in blackout, disrupting both residential and commercial activities.
A senior Transco official confirmed the technical fault and stated that efforts were under way to restore power by midnight.
