Sri Lanka, AP Discuss Strengthening Ties
Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada on Friday and held discussions on expanding cooperation between Sri Lanka and the state.
Amaravati: Sri Lanka and the state of Andhra Pradesh on Friday discussed ways to further strengthen their longstanding ties, with a focus on tourism, trade, investment and pilgrimage tourism.
Sri Lanka’s deputy high commissioner, Dr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada on Friday and held discussions on expanding cooperation between Sri Lanka and the state. During the meeting, the deputy high commissioner highlighted the potential for increasing trade and investment links, particularly by encouraging greater interaction between the business communities of Sri Lanka and Andhra Pradesh.
The discussions also explored new avenues for economic cooperation and closer engagement in the tourism sector.
Pilgrimage tourism was another key area discussed, with both sides looking at opportunities to promote greater movement of visitors and deepen people-to-people contacts.
The Chief Minister invited more Sri Lankan garment and apparel companies, to establish and expand their operations in Andhra Pradesh, highlighting the State’s potential as a destination for investment in the garment and textile sector.
Geathiswaran emphasised the scope for building on the existing relationship through stronger commercial and tourism partnerships, while exploring fresh opportunities for collaboration between Sri Lanka and Andhra Pradesh.
