Sravani, Kalyani Make Final Pitch To Voters Ahead Of GVMC Polls

The two outlined competing visions for the city and expressed confidence about their victory in the November 1 polls: Reports

VISAKHAPATNAM: With campaigning for the GVMC elections drawing to a close, mayoral candidates Mukka Sravani of the TD-led alliance and Varudu Kalyani of the YSRC made their final appeals to voters on Friday.

The two outlined competing visions for the city and expressed confidence about their victory in the November 1 polls.

Addressing the media at Seethammadhara, Sravani sought public support and promised to serve residents “like a daughter of their own family” if elected as the city mayor. She assured residents that she would remain accessible, address civic problems and accelerate the city’s development.

Sravani held out a lure -- that the alliance government is committed to transforming Visakhapatnam into a major economic and IT hub.

Supporting her candidature, Visakhapatnam district in-charge minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy urged voters to ensure a decisive victory for the alliance candidates. He highlighted the government’s efforts to attract investment, generate employment, distribute housing title deeds to poor families and advance key projects, including the Visakhapatnam Railway Zone.

The minister said the alliance government had undertaken development works worth thousands of crores and urged voters to become partners in the city’s growth.

Meanwhile, YSRC mayoral candidate Varudu Kalyani promised transparent and people-centric governance. Addressing the media alongside senior party leaders, she said Visakhapatnam should be developed as the economic, industrial and tourism capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Kalyani pledged to address the city’s drinking water shortage, traffic congestion and public health concerns. She also promised environmental protection measures, improved municipal services, better infrastructure in merged suburban areas and preservation of the city’s heritage and culture.

The YSRC candidate criticised the alliance government for failing to fulfil several elections promises and questioned its record on urban development. She claimed that the YSRC government had implemented major welfare and infrastructure projects in Visakhapatnam and said her party had received strong public support during the campaign.

With polling scheduled for November 1 and counting on November 3, the contest between Sravani and Kalyani has emerged as the centrepiece of the keenly fought GVMC elections.
