Smuggler Tries To Run Over Cops, Held With 22 kg Ganja

The accused, identified as Beeraka Prakash alias Surya Prakash, 51, of Krishna Nagar, Rajahmundry, was transporting the contraband in a Maruti Swift Dzire (AP 10 AY 5649) from Alluri Sitarama Raju district agency area to supply it to local peddlers.

When the police team, acting on a tip-off, tried to stop the car, the accused sped towards them, hitting constable Feroz of the Eagle Team, who sustained a fractured tooth and bleeding hand injuries.

In retaliation, circle inspector K. Sambasiva Rao fired two rounds from his service pistol, bringing the vehicle to a halt and enabling the arrest. Police seized the car along with the contraband.

Police said that Prakash is a repeat offender with multiple cases under NDPS Act and IPC registered in East Godavari, Eluru, and Nellore districts. He is also on the suspect sheet at Jeelugumilli police station in Eluru district.
IG of Eagle Cell, R.K. Ravikrishna lauded the courage of the Balaji Nagar police team, saying, “The officers displayed exemplary bravery in foiling a dangerous smuggling attempt despite being attacked. Such determination shows our commitment to making the state drug-free.”

The operation was coordinated by Additional SP (Admin) Ch. Soujanya and DSP (Town) P. Sindhu Priya.

Police urged citizens to report illegal drug activities to Eagle Cell helpline 1972, assuring that informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
