Slaughterhouses, Meat Markets To Remain Closed On R-Day

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has ordered a one-day closure of all slaughterhouses, meat shops and fish markets in the city on January 26 in view of the 77th Republic Day celebrations.

Following the directions of Municipal commissioner Dr D. Chandrasekhar, chief medical health officer Dr K. Arjuna Rao said all slaughterhouses and meat-related establishments would remain closed for the day. As part of enforcement measures, animal slaughter will not be permitted from Sunday night onwards.

He warned that any violation of the orders, including unauthorised slaughter or the sale of meat, chicken or fish, would attract strict legal action.

The civic body has issued clear instructions to both wholesale and retail traders dealing in mutton, chicken and fish to ensure complete closure of their establishments. Officials said the move aims to maintain the sanctity of Republic Day celebrations and ensure compliance with civic and public health regulations.

The VMC appealed to traders and the public to cooperate with the authorities and strictly adhere to the orders in the larger public interest.
