Vijayawada: The AP CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioned retired IAS officer Rajat Bhargava at its office here on Tuesday in connection with the multi-crore AP liquor scam case, involving alleged irregularities in liquor policy and the procurement and distribution of liquor during the previous YSR Congress regime.
The SIT sleuths reportedly questioned him about several aspects of the liquor policy, including its formulation and implementation, approval of liquor brands, the order-for-sale process, alleged intervention by private individuals in Excise Department affairs and irregularities in procurement.
They also reportedly questioned him on why he remained silent despite serving as Special Chief Secretary of the Excise Department when the alleged irregularities were causing revenue losses to the State exchequer. They further sought details of the measures he had taken to curb such anomalies.
Bhargava reportedly told the SIT that he had already alerted the then government about the lapses. The SIT is likely to question him again as part of its efforts to gather further details in the case.
