SIR: Poll Officials Allay Concern Over Deletion of 44.28 Lakh Voter Names in AP Lists
The final publication date of the electoral rolls, already revised to October 3, may also be revised again.
Vijayawada:The election authority in Andhra Pradesh has sought to allay apprehensions among political parties over the proposed deletion of 44.28 lakh electors from the final electoral rolls, saying notices had been issued to all the targeted voters as part of the special intensive revision (SIR).
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has taken up four tasks — generation of notices, digital delivery, hearings and parking of eligible electors for inclusion in the final rolls — ahead of publication of the final electoral rolls on October 3.
Notices have been generated for all 44.28 lakh electors, while digital delivery is expected to be completed by Tuesday. Hearings have been completed for 26.33 lakh notices, with Kurnool, Srikakulam, West Godavari, Chittoor, Eluru and Guntur districts making good progress. The process of parking eligible electors for inclusion in the final rolls has been completed for 22.88 lakh electors so far.
The four tasks would be completed by September 28. With generation and digital delivery of notices completed, officials are expediting hearings and parking of eligible electors for final publication.
Additional chief electoral officer S. Dilli Rao said, “We are in a comfortable position with regard to generation and digital delivery of notices. Hearings and parking of electors for final rolls have also seen considerable progress and we will complete them soon as per schedule.”
“With this, we rule out any apprehensions on deletion of 44.28 lakh voters from the rolls and we will arrive at a final number of voters for deletion by September 28,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources said the Election Commission may revise the last date for submission of claims and objections under Forms 6, 7 and 8, as the exercise ended on August 30.

Under Form 6, used for new voter registration, 8,58,455 applications have been received, of which 2.07 lakh are pending. As for Form 7, used to raise objections to proposed inclusion or seek deletion of existing names, there were 15,409 applications, of which 5,042 are pending. These include deletions involving absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate electors.
As for Form 8, used for corrections, replacement of damaged or lost voter IDs and shifting of residence, among other modifications, some 12,03,045 applications have been received, of which 1.31 lakh are pending.
- Out of 44.28 lakh electors, hearings have been completed for 26.33 lakh electors; and of them, nearly 16,000 ineligible electors have been found
- From the remaining 17.95 lakh electors, ineligible electors have to be found as the hearings go on
- Earlier, 44.89 electors have been deleted from the electoral rolls for being absent, shifted, dead or for duplicate entries
