Shravan Festivities Drive Up Fruit And Flower Prices In Vizag Rythu Bazars

Flower prices have surged in Vizag's Rythu Bazaars, especially for varieties commonly used in Sravana Sukravaram pooja and home decorations.

Visakhapatnam:As the auspicious month of Shravan begins, prices for fruits and flowers in Vizag's Rythu Bazaars have increased amid a rise in demand for Friday pujas and festive rituals.

G Appala Swamy, a shopper at the MVP Rythu Bazar, highlighted the steep rise in coconut prices: “Previously, small coconuts were sold at Rs 5 each. Now, the big ones cost Rs 30, medium coconuts Rs 26, and small ones Rs 15.”

Bananas, a staple offering for puja, are now priced between Rs 60 and Rs 65 per dozen. Other fruits have also become more expensive, with apples priced at Rs 250 per kilo, Nagpur oranges `240, jamun ` 220 per kilo, and pomegranates Rs 210.

Flower prices have surged in Vizag's Rythu Bazaars, especially for varieties commonly used in Sravana Sukravaram pooja and home decorations. Kanakambaralu, a vibrant and fragrant flower, now sells for Rs 600 per kg. “I love the Kanakambaram-jasmine combo, but I bought only a small quantity,” said Munukoti Bavana.

Jasmine flowers, along with white and saffron Chemantulu hybrids, are priced at Rs 400 per kg. Virajaji flowers are selling for Rs 250 per kg, while lilies are available at Rs 200. Hybrid roses in yellow-red shades are priced at Rs 250 and local roses Rs 230 per kg.

Marigolds, often used in garlands and temple offerings, are relatively affordable at Rs 120 per kg. Gunneru garlands, popular for decorating doors and pooja mandapas, cost Rs 45 each. At the same time, a kagada-malli, a budget-friendly option for daily pujas, is priced at Rs 30 per kg.

Tulsi garlands, considered sacred and essential for many rituals, are selling for Rs 100 each. Lotus flowers, used in rituals, remain affordable at above Rs 10 per flower.
