Setback In SC for Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy in Bugga Mutt Land Case

Former YSRCP minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy faced a setback in the Supreme Court, which refused to intervene in the Bugga Mutt lands dispute.

New Delhi: YSRCP Punganur MLA and former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy suffered a setback in the Supreme Court after the apex court declined to intervene in the Bugga Mutt land dispute and upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court's verdict. A division bench comprising Justice K. V. Viswanathan and Justice Arun Palli made it clear that, in line with the High Court's ruling, Peddireddy must approach the Endowments Tribunal.

In May last year, the executive officer (EO) of the Mutt, located in MR Palli in Tirupati district, issued orders alleging that Peddireddy had encroached on the lands and carried out illegal constructions. The orders directed him to vacate the land within ten days. The EO of the Mutt sent notices to Ramachandra Reddy to remove encroachments on an extent of 3.88 acres belonging to the Mutt. Peddireddy challenged these orders by filing a petition in the AP High Court. The High Court's single bench directed him to file an appeal against the EO's orders before the Endowments Tribunal within four weeks. He then moved a division bench, which extended the deadline by another four weeks.
Peddireddy subsequently approached the Supreme Court, which upheld the High Court's decision, leaving him to pursue his objections before the Endowments Tribunal.
