SEC Postpones Mydukur Municipal Polls

The postponement has added to political tensions in Kadapa district, where the local body election process has been marred by allegations of obstruction and clashes between rival political groups.

Kadapa: The State Election Commission (SEC) has postponed the municipal elections in Mydukur municipality of YSR Kadapa district, scheduled for October 28, following allegations that nomination papers were torn up during the filing process.

The SEC issued the postponement orders after the district Collector reported that the damage to nomination papers had made scrutiny difficult. The Commission said the election process could not proceed under the circumstances and announced that a fresh notification would be issued for Mydukur.

The incident occurred on October 18, the last day for filing nominations. According to reports, some Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists allegedly snatched and tore up nomination papers when YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) candidates arrived to file their nominations.

Officials were subsequently unable to scrutinise the papers, prompting the district administration to bring the matter to the SEC’s attention. Following the Collector’s report, the Commission decided to postpone the polls and restart the election process through a fresh notification.

Meanwhile, the nomination process for the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections will continue as scheduled. Nominations for these elections will be accepted from October 21 to 23.

The postponement has added to political tensions in Kadapa district, where the local body election process has been marred by allegations of obstruction and clashes between rival political groups.
