Search Panel Formed For Appointment of AP Lokayukta
The government stated that the Lokayukta will be appointed from among retired Chief Justices and retired High Court judges

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a high-level search committee to scrutinise applications and nominations for the appointment of the Lokayukta under the amended provisions of the AP Lokayukta Act.
According to G.O.Rt.No.1051 issued by the General Administration (SC.B) department on Monday, the committee has been formed in accordance with the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta (Amendment) Act, 2024, and the rules notified earlier this year.
The government stated that the Lokayukta will be appointed from among retired Chief Justices and retired High Court judges. The appointment will be made by a selection committee headed by the Chief Minister.
Other members of the selection committee are the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the home minister or another minister nominated by the Chief Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, and the Chairperson of the Legislative Council.
The order stated that the government had already issued a notification inviting applications and nominations and had written to Registrars of High Courts across the country seeking eligible names for the post.
The search committee will scrutinise the applications received and assess the eligibility and suitability of candidates in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the rules framed under it. It has been tasked with preparing a panel of five candidates for consideration for appointment as Lokayukta.
Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad will chair the committee. The chief commissioner of land administration and the secretary to the law department will serve as members, while the principal secretary (political), general administration department, will function as member-convener.
