School bus driver gets one year RI for fatal accident

Visakhapatnam: Chief judicial magistrate M. Pradeep Kumar on Thursday convicted a corporate school bus driver, Mittana Guruvulu, for a period of one year of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of `20,000 (two months of simple imprisonment in case of default) for causing the death of a woman pillion rider by driving his bus in a rash and negligent manner.

According to senior assistant public prosecutor Mylapilli Adinarayana, on April 12, 2024 , the accused stopped a school bus at Durga Temple, Deen Dayal Puram, and school children were getting down; the injured and pillion rider (son and mother) were proceeding towards Simhachalam, their home. The accused started his bus after dropping children and suddenly took a right turn without blowing the horn at high speed, causing death to the pillion rider and grievous injury to the rider of the bike.

The injured Nakkana Swamy lodged a report to the Arilova PS. Sub inspector Ch. Surya Narayan investigated and filed a charge sheet. The prosecution proved the guilt beyond reasonable doubt under section 304A IPC against the accused. Court recommended the district legal service authority for compensation to the dependents of the deceased under 357A Cr P C. The dead victim was identified as Nakkana Lakshmi.
