SC To Quash Cases On CBI Officer Ramsingh And Sunitha

The apex court bench comprising Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice SK Singh announced the quashing of the cases against the trio: Reports

ANANTAPUR: The Supreme Court has made a significant decision in the six-year-old case of murder of former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy.

On Tuesday, it quashed the cases against then CBI investigating officer Ram Singh and Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter N Sunita, and her husband Narreddy Rajasekhara Reddy.

Counsel Siddarth Luthra arguing for Sunitha informed the SC bench that false cases were registered against then CBI officer, Sunitha and her husband by the police of Kadapa district.

The apex court bench comprising Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice SK Singh announced the quashing of the cases against the trio.

Notably, the Kadapa and Anantapur police registered cases against CBI officer Ram Singh, Sunitha and Rajasekhar Reddy over complaints that they were threatening witnesses to issue a statement against the Kadapa MP, YS Avinash Reddy, and others.

In addition, Luthra argued that the bail of Avinash Reddy and other accused in the case must be dismissed. He informed the court that the CBI had concluded the investigation within the court’s set deadline.

Luthra stressed the need for a thorough investigation into the murder case, saying the real culprits and the masterminds behind the crime must be exposed.

Several witnesses have reportedly faced threats and intimidation from the accused, he said, and argued that the cases filed against Ram Singh were part of a larger conspiracy.

After hearing the submissions, the court decided to quash the cases against Sunita and the others.

Meanwhile, CBI counsel and additional solicitor general SV Raju brought to the notice of the bench the influence of the accused on witnesses as the case was sensational.

The SC bench directed the CBI to submit a report, whether or not to take custody of the eight accused for further investigation. The case was posted to Sept 9 for further hearing.
