SC To Directly Monitor Probe Into Gade Sai Krishna Custodial Death
The bench was hearing a petition filed in New Delhi by YSRC MP Muddila Gurumoorthy, seeking an inquiry into the role of senior police officials in the alleged illegal detention and custodial death of Sai Krishna and alleged destruction of evidence.
Vijayawada:The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Andhra Pradesh government to submit all records and case details in a sealed cover and said it would directly monitor the investigation into the custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna.
A three-judge bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Augustine George Masih and Justice Sandeep Mehta expressed concern over the circumstances of the case, including why Sai Krishna was not produced before a magistrate, the delay in registering an FIR and the alleged deletion of CCTV footage at the Krishna Lanka police station.

The MP challenged an Andhra Pradesh High Court order staying a magistrate court’s directions to initiate an inquiry against AP DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, NTR district police commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu and ASP K. Manasa. The Supreme Court directed that all proceedings related to the case in the AP High Court be stayed until it concludes hearing of the petitions.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted details regarding the circumstances surrounding Sai Krishna’s disappearance. The bench noted that the detained youth was never produced before a magistrate and questioned the AP government's senior counsel on why an FIR was not registered immediately despite a formal complaint about his disappearance being submitted to the DGP on May 28.
The Supreme Court observed that a person's disappearance while in police custody was unlawful and said it would monitor the investigation directly.
The court issued notices to the respondents and directed the petitioner to serve copies of the petition on all respondents by September 30. It posted the next hearing to October 12.
