SC Commission Receives 196 Petitions in Nellore
People from different parts of the district approached the Commission with grievances on various issues.
NELLORE: The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Scheduled Castes received 196 petitions from members of SC communities and representatives of SC organisations during its visit to Nellore district on Thursday.
Commission chairman K.S. Jawahar, members Sripathi Babu, Mekkal Bhiksham and Ramajanamma, and Secretary Chinna Ramudu received the petitions at Thikkana Pranganam in the Nellore Collectorate.
People from different parts of the district approached the Commission with grievances on various issues. Revenue-related matters accounted for most of the petitions, while several complaints related to police cases were also submitted.
Jawahar said the Commission would examine every petition and take steps to address the grievances at the earliest. He assured the petitioners that appropriate action would be initiated based on the issues raised in their representations.
Prasanna Kumar Reddy warns officials ahead of local body polls
Former Kovur MLA and YSRC leader Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy on Thursday warned police and other officials against allegedly intimidating YSRC candidates ahead of the local body elections, saying they would be held accountable if his party returned to power.
Addressing a meeting of YSRC leaders and cadres at the party office in Kovur, Prasanna Kumar Reddy said the party would contest all seats in the forthcoming local body elections and expressed confidence of winning a majority of ZPTC, MPTC and sarpanch posts in the district.
He alleged that some Circle Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors at the mandal level were acting as “proxies” of the ruling TD-led alliance. “We respect the police department, but officials who work in favour of the ruling party should change their attitude,” he said.
He warned that officials who threatened YSRC candidates would face consequences if the party returned to power. He said they would be “made to stand on Nellore Trunk Road”.
Taking a swipe at the ruling alliance, Prasanna Kumar Reddy said the government might have money power, but the YSRC had people’s power. He claimed that growing public dissatisfaction with the alliance government would work in favour of his party in the local elections.
He also alleged that the alliance had come to power through EVMs and said voters would give it a fitting response through ballot papers.
“Police personnel supporting the TD should remove their khaki uniforms and wear yellow shirts,” he remarked, alleging that some officials were openly siding with the ruling party.
