VIJAYAWADA: Sakhi One Stop Centres (OSCs) are playing a crucial role in ensuring women’s safety. They are delivering dignity and justice to women facing distress, said NTR district collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha on Wednesday.
Flagging off a specially allocated vehicle for the Sakhi OSC at the Collectorate premises, he said the vehicle will help strengthen the outreach and response mechanisms for women in need, such as counselling, medical aid, police assistance and legal support.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the collector pointed out that Sakhi One Stop Centres are instrumental in preventing violence against women, while providing immediate and comprehensive assistance to victims. He underlined that these centres enable women to access all essential services at a single location, ensuring timely and coordinated support.
Dr. Lakshmisha underlined that the State government is implementing several welfare schemes and programmes not only to ensure women’s safety but also ensure their empowerment. He said the government is encouraging women to emerge as entrepreneurs, enabling them to become economically self-reliant.
Those present on the occasion included District Women and Child Welfare Officer Ruksana Sultana Begum, Vijayawada Urban CDPO Jyotsna, Mission Shakti coordinators, supervisors, anganwadi workers, Sakhi One Stop Centre staff and District Child Protection Unit personnel.
