Sagarmala, PMMSY Propelling Modernisation of harbours in AP: Minister
Minister Atchannaidu said 10 of the fishing harbours are being developed to global standards

VIJAYAWADA: The NDA coalition government is upgrading fishing infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh by modernising major harbours that meet international standards under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Sagarmala schemes. Replying to a question by Pendurthi MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu in the AP Legislative Assembly on the proposed mini jetty / fish landing centre at Muthyalammapalem in Paravada mandal of Anakapalli district, Agriculture and Fisheries minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu on Friday said the state’s 1,053.07-km coastline across 12 coastal districts currently has 350 identified fish landing centres and fishing harbours. The minister pointed out that since July 15, 2020, Harbour administration has been transferred from the Fisheries department to the Infrastructure and Investment department.
In Phase I, Juvvaladinne, Uppada, Machilipatnam and Nizampatnam harbours are being modernised. Budagatlapalem, Pudimadaka, Kothapatnam and Vodarevu are proposed for modernisation in Phase II. Atchannaidu said 10 of the fishing harbours are being developed to global standards. Modernisation of Visakhapatnam harbour is under way at a cost of ₹178.51 crore with support from PMMSY, Sagarmala and the Visakhapatnam Port Authority. Coastal Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries (CICEF) has agreed to prepare a DPR for Kakinada harbour modernisation costing ₹58.95 crore.
The minister explained that under PMMSY, fish landing centres (FLCs) worth ₹126.91 crore are in the tendering stage at Donduvak, Uppalanka, 0. Works at Machilipatnam and Biyyaputhippa FLCs are progressing. On Muthyalammapalem, he said CICEF has conducted a pre-feasibility study and final reports are awaited. Based on technical viability, further steps will be taken.
