Rumours Spread Over Kakani Govardhan Reddy’s Arrest in Kerala
Fugitive ex-minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy reportedly detained in Kerala after weeks on the run; confusion persists over exact location.

Nellore: Rumors swirled here about the ‘arrest’ of YSR Congress Nellore district president and former minister Kakani Govardhan ReddyinKerala on Sunday.
While there was no official confirmation, multiple sources within political and police circles hinted that the elusive leader was finally tracked down — after being on the run for nearly two months.
Kakani faces multiple serious charges, including a case of illegal mining and another under the SC-ST (prevention of atrocities) Act.
Confusion reigned as conflicting reports emerged about the location of the alleged arrest— some pointing to Kerala and others to Bangalore in Karnataka. Even Kakani's long-time political adversary, Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, said, “I too heard so.”
The Nellore police had launched a statewide manhunt for the former minister, which extended to neighbouring states. Multiple teams were dispatched across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala to track him down.
Their task was complicated by Kakani’s high-profile status and a network of supporters allegedly helping him stay underground. Kakani made unsuccessful attempts to secure anticipatory bail from both the AP high court and the supreme court.
Sources within the YSR Congress hinted that if Kakani was arrested in Kerala, he might be brought to Nellore before Monday afternoon as cops should produce him in a court within 24 hours of the arrest, as per legal protocol.
While there was no official confirmation yet, news channels and social media platforms continue to give periodic updates from their “sources”.
