Rs 7.25-cr Udayagiri Heritage Restoration Plan Awaits CSR Funding

NELLORE: Two heritage conservation projects at the historic Udayagiri site in Nellore district, estimated to cost Rs 7.25 crore, have been identified by the Centre for restoration under the National Culture Fund (NCF), but their execution is awaiting support through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or philanthropic funding.
The Union ministry of culture disclosed this in the Lok Sabha while replying to a question raised by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy.
The proposed works include removal and resetting of the approach steps leading to the Udayagiri Hill Fort and restoration of the ancient flooring inside the Ranganayakula Temple.
The projects are among nearly 250 heritage conservation works identified by the NCF for voluntary funding through CSR and philanthropic contributions. However, no donor has yet come forward to support the Udayagiri projects.
Union minister for culture and tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed the Lok Sabha that no CSR contributor has confirmed financial assistance for either project. He said implementation would depend on companies or philanthropists willing to fund the works.
The Centre has estimated the combined cost of the two projects at Rs 7.25 crore. The final scope and expenditure may vary depending on the donor’s requirements and the technical assessment carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The NCF has listed the projects on its portal, enabling prospective donors to select conservation works based on location, heritage significance, thematic interest and financial commitment.
The inclusion of the Udayagiri projects in the NCF list marks the first step towards their restoration, with execution now dependent on securing financial support.
