Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government will construct permanent buildings for Mahatma Jyotirao Phule (MJP) BC residential schools with Rs 500 crore from SASKI funds, BC welfare minister S. Savitha told the Assembly on Monday.

Ten new BC gurukuls were established this year, five each in Rayalaseema and North Andhra, while six girls’ gurukuls were upgraded as junior colleges to curb dropouts.

The government has allocated Rs 80 crore to complete MJP buildings that are 70 to 80 per cent complete, including those at Gonabavi, Madakasira, Roddam and Pulivendula, within six months. About 90,676 students are staying in BC hostels.

CSR and DMF funds are being used for repairs, while students from unsafe hostels are being shifted. CCTV cameras, RO plants and FRS-based attendance systems have also been introduced.

The 2026-27 Budget allocated Rs 20 crore for hostel repairs.
