Rs 3.02-crore Bio-Fertiliser Lab to Come Up in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: A bio-fertiliser production laboratory is coming up at Yendada in Visakhapatnam at an estimated cost of `3.02 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao set the foundation stone for the facility on Friday. He said the government was committed to strengthening agriculture and improving the welfare of farmers through remunerative prices, procurement centres, market intervention and storage facilities.
He stressed the need to promote bio-fertilisers, saying excessive use of chemical fertilisers could affect soil health. Rao said he was pleased that one of the three new bio-fertiliser laboratories being established in the state was coming up at Yendada in his constituency. He suggested that the facility be completed and made operational within nine months.
District agriculture officer Appalaswamy said the laboratory would produce bio-fertilisers such as Azotobacter, Azospirillum and Rhizobium to improve nutrient availability, strengthen root systems and enhance soil health.
The facility would help reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, lower cultivation costs and promote sustainable agriculture, he said. It would also serve as a training centre for farmers and field staff, with live demonstrations to encourage the use of bio-fertilisers.
Agriculture department officials, public representatives and others attended the programme.
