Rs 11.85 Crore Allocated to Boost Summer Water Supply in Vijayawada

VMC boosts water infrastructure with ₹11.85 crore plan to ensure uninterrupted summer supply.

Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra has announced that ₹11.85 crore has been sanctioned under the Summer Action Plan 2025 to strengthen the city's water supply infrastructure.

He reviewed the preparedness measures with engineering officials via teleconference on Saturday, stressing the need to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply during peak summer.
The commissioner said all hand bores across the city have been repaired, flushed, and made operational. Additional hand bores and power bores have been installed in water-scarce and high-demand areas. All motors have been serviced, with standby motors and pumps kept ready for quick replacement in case of failures.
To prevent disruptions, essential pipeline and valve repair materials have been stocked. Tenders have been finalised for generators at headwater works and booster stations to maintain supply during power outages. Motor control panels have also been serviced and spare parts stocked.
Dhyanachandra said faulty control valves, especially at Elevated Level Storage Reservoirs (ELSRs) and in distribution networks, have been replaced. Chlorinators have been installed at ELSRs, Ground Level Storage Reservoirs (GLSRs), and booster stations to ensure water quality.
Additionally, 81 water kiosks have been set up across the city to provide clean drinking water to the public. The commissioner assured citizens that the VMC is fully prepared to meet summer water demand and urged residents to promptly report any supply issues.
