Retiring DGP Pratap Pays Tribute to Martyred IPS Officer
Several police officers and staff voluntarily joined Pratap on the tribute ride, paying homage to the fallen officer.

Vijayawada:In a touching gesture on the day of his retirement, Andhra Pradesh road safety authority chairman M. Pratap, IPS, undertook a bicycle ride from the DGP headquarters in Mangalagiri to the statue of martyred IPS officer Umesh Chandra in Tenali.
There, Prathap dedicated the police uniform he had worn during more than 35 years of service.
Pratap and Umesh Chandra belonged to the same IPS batch and shared a close personal bond. Remembered as one of AP’s bravest police officers, Umesh Chandra sacrificed his life while fighting terrorism and organised crime. His courage, dedication and commitment to public safety continue to inspire generations of police personnel.

Born into a humble farming family, Pratap rose from helping his mother deliver milk during his childhood to becoming one of the state’s most respected police leaders. Before retiring, he also visited his former teachers and sought their blessings, acknowledging their role in shaping his life and career.
During his distinguished service, Pratap held several key positions, including as SP, Greyhounds commander, additional secretary in the CMO, CEO of AP Investment, DGP of the AP special protection force, APSRTC vice-chairman and MD, director general of fire services and disaster response, and chairman of the AP road safety authority.
