Retired IPS Officer Seeks Rs 1 Crore Damages From Andhra Pradesh Govt
The respondents have been given 15 days to pay compensation with 12 per cent interest, failing which civil proceedings would be initiated.

Vijayawada: Retired senior IPS officer Aluru Bala Venkateswara Rao has issued a statutory legal notice seeking Rs 1,00,00,001 as damages from the Andhra Pradesh government and 10 senior police and administrative officials, alleging malicious prosecution, unlawful suspension and defamation.
The notice, served under Section 80 of the Code of Civil Procedure through advocate Subrahmanyam Chakiri on April 23, accused the officials of fabricating records and orchestrating a false case that led to the officer’s suspension in February 2020.
It alleged that a procurement decision relating to surveillance equipment was manipulated to implicate him, followed by a sham enquiry based on forged documents.
According to the notice, the Anti-Corruption Bureau registered a case in 2021 alleging procedural violations and financial irregularities. However, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, in its May 7, 2025 judgment, quashed the FIR and subsequent charge sheet, observing that the allegations lacked evidence and legal basis.
The notice further alleged reputational damage due to defamatory material circulated to the media, and cited financial losses, mental agony and career setbacks suffered by the officer.
The respondents have been given 15 days to pay compensation with 12 per cent interest, failing which civil proceedings would be initiated.
