Record Water Availability In Nellore, Says Anam

Speaking to the media at his Santapeta camp office, he noted that Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs were brimming, holding 90 to 100 TMCft together.

Nellore:Endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy on Thursday said that Nellore district was witnessing record water availability, with nearly 100 TMCft still in reservoirs even after irrigating the second crop this season.

Speaking to the media at his Santapeta camp office, he noted that Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs were brimming, holding 90 to 100 TMCft together. Irrigation water has been supplied to nearly six lakh acres, including four lakh acres in Nellore district. Harvest of the second paddy crop across 5.24 lakh acres is expected in 20–25 days, he said.

With the Somasila and Telugu Ganga reservoirs holding 59 TMCft and 35 TMCft respectively, the minister credited effective water management in the government’s first year. Anam said, “Not a single drop should go waste. Our government aims to bring joy to farmers by ensuring irrigation for every crop.”

He urged farmers to diversify into commercial crops apart from paddy. Highlighting long-term plans, he said the state, under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision, is pursuing a ₹84,000-crore river-linking project involving Krishna, Godavari and Penna rivers. “Discussions with neighboring states on water-sharing projects are underway. Polavaram project will be completed soon with Central support and Banakacharla project will be operational shortly while Handri-Neeva is nearing completion," Anam noted.

“Our government stands firmly with farmers, committed to extending irrigation up to the last acre,” he affirmed.
