Rayalaseema Sees Spurt in Infrastructure, Industrial Projects

From solar and gold mining to steel and manufacturing, Rayalaseema is witnessing a strong push in infrastructure and industrial development.

Kadapa: Rayalaseema is witnessing a series of infrastructure and industrial projects inaugurated in recent months, with additional ventures scheduled to launch shortly.

A 600-MW solar power project had been inaugurated on May 22 at T. Konduru village in Jammalamadugu constituency of Kadapa district. Developed by a private firm at an investment of ₹3,000 crore, the project spread over nearly 2,400 acres is now operational.

“We are committed to strengthening green energy infrastructure in the state. The solar project will play a key role in meeting future power demands,” IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh said while inaugurating the facility.

On June 24, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated a private gold mining project at Jonnagiri, developed at a cost of ₹406 crore. According to officials, the project commenced commercial production on June 25, with gold being marketed in the form of 100-gram and 500-gram biscuits.

“This is a landmark moment for Andhra Pradesh. The mining sector will generate employment and boost the state’s economy,” the Chief Minister said during the inauguration. Officials said the mine is expected to produce about 400 kg of gold initially, with output projected to increase to 900 kg in subsequent stages.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a steel plant at Sunnapurallapalle in Jammalamadugu constituency on July 3. The ₹8,800-crore project, spread over 3,500 acres, is expected to generate substantial employment.

“We have held multiple rounds of discussions with the project management. Construction will be completed at the earliest,” Kadapa District Collector Cherukuri Sridhar said. The CM had declared that the Kadapa steel plant would be completed by 2028.

The district administration is preparing to launch a pilot smart kitchen project to provide nutritious meals to schoolchildren using technology-driven systems.

“We are accelerating MSME development under the ‘Startup Kadapa’ initiative to promote local entrepreneurship,” an Industries Department official said.

In the neighbouring Kurnool district, a beverages manufacturing unit being constructed at Orvakal is nearing completion. It is expected to commence operations shortly, officials said.

With multiple projects progressing simultaneously, Rayalaseema is witnessing increased industrial and infrastructure activity across the region.
